The inspiration

Hello!

Welcome to my first ever blog post!

I have forayed into the realm of blogging primarily so that my friends and family can keep up with the hubby and I during our travels, although anyone is welcome to visit the site. We have discovered that it can be difficult to keep up with everyone while we are traveling and this is a way to cut down on the question: “Where are you?”

As many of you know, it has been a dream of mine for years, heck, decades, to travel. I love to go new places, see new things, meet new people. Our world is so large and diverse and I’d like to spend some time, while we are still physically able, to experience some of what the world has to offer. I’m not sure where or when I actually acquired the travel bug. Yes, I took a few trips with my parents when I was young, but the older I became, the more places I wanted to go. I’m not entirely certain this has been Chuck’s dream, but at least he is willing to indulge me and go along for the ride. As he says all the time, he’s seen the world and now he’d like to see the United States.

I asked: How can I make this desire for travel happen? I had almost thrown out the idea that one day we would retire, sell the home, and actually do it. I realized a problem existed: we still needed a place to ‘live’ while traveling. Enter the RV. I began researching RV’s and stumbled across a couple of YouTube videos that people were making while living full-time in their RV’s. The lightbulb came on – WE could do that! (live in an RV, NOT make YouTube videos, LOL). Unknown to me at the beginning of my research was that there are lots of people living and traveling full-time in their RV’s. These are families with children who are home schooled, people with traveling jobs that live out of their RV’s, couples with remote jobs that combine work and travel, and retirees, like us, all moving around and exploring all this country has to offer. And let’s admit it – the United States is a BIG country! I remember talking with someone on an airplane once who was from England, and listened as they spoke about how large our country as compared to England or other European countries. That one conversation made me appreciate that, yes – the U.S. is a large country and has so much to offer – we just need to take the time to see it and appreciate it.

Fast forward to today. Although delayed, we do have the RV and have taken a few trips to familiarize ourselves with the lifestyle. Ultimately we would like to be living full-time in the RV while traveling, and the plan was to have already sold the house and be doing exactly that. Unfortunately, covid, rising mortgage rates, health matters, a new puppy (Bennie)…have all delayed the full-time dream, but thankfully we are still able to periodically travel until we sell the house.

The name View Out My Door is inspired by the picture in this post. In 2022 we were on an extended trip in Florida and towards the end of that trip, we were parked at a campground along the Banana River, across from Port Canaveral. Every single morning I would wake up to see what stage the sunrise was in and what colors were in the morning sky. I would literally open the RV door, grab whatever camera was handy, and start taking pictures – without ever stepping foot out my door.  The fading purple from the night sky and the pinks and oranges of the rising sun were beautiful.

This picture was taken on January 7, 2022 at 6:54 AM. It is unedited and was taken with my iPhone XS. It was the View Out My Door for the day.
